Mike,

I think we can work out a hardware drop-off for the people who bring
equipment for an Asterisk install and then go park somewhere.

We'd like to go with Saturday, April 21st to (1) keep the event more
relaxed than it would be if we try to do it on a work week evening, (2)
not impinge on what could be an intense schedule for the Asterisk
Developers, (3) bring in students who have all of that free time before
exams :)

We'd like to get into the space at 8AM to setup and have a turn out the
lights time of 2PM at the latest. We propose to open with a 45 minute
presentation that takes people through the Linux and Asterisk Open Source
Projects, into converged IP communications services and generally what you
can do with Asterisk. Then we can start installations. Running at the
same time as the installations will be hands-on demonstrations of a
hobbyist Home system, a Small Office / Small Home (SOHO) system and a
Wireless IP Converged Communications system.

We are just now doing the numbers on the install cycle time on a minimum
spec platform. For now, say it takes an hour per unit from inserting an
install CD through configuration and a benchmark test call. If we get 18
candidates we need to do 6 systems at a time to get them done in 3 hours.
As I mentioned AtlAUG would bring routers, cables, power strips, a couple
of servers, monitors and laptops. And of course our demonstration systems
for presentation and hands-on use by the attendees. We'd need tables,
power outlets and IP connectivity close. The IP connectivity is so we can
reach external SIP providers to make test and demonstration calls to the
world and get any tools or patches that we discover we need.

So Mike if you could get us a room at Klaus on April 21st I think this
would be a fantastic event!

I'm working on the press release now and I'll send you a pre-release copy
later today. Of course anything we send out would get to be approved by
your group before it is released. We will most certainly encourge people
to register by sending us an e-mail message if they think they will attend
and to indicate if they will bring hardware for an install.

Call me if you want to talk through any of this.

Best Regards,

Steven
